A project for the V&A's design think tank The Future Object we were approached by the design consultancy Wood McGrath for the interaction design for a proposed Digital Gift. Working with Wood McGrath and the V&A's curatorial team we were asked to both propose the on screen form of the project and the feasibility of its delivery as well as understand and add to its content.
Concept
We developed the interface after visiting the reading room at the V&A and observing how the analogue indexing system of microfiche index cards were browsed, used and experienced. This system of browsing a small index card that has a huge layer of secondary content when placed a viewer struck us as both flexible in use and transferable to the screen. We used this basic interface insight to segment and deliver the media rich content of the digital gift. We also worked with Wood McGrath to develop the content of the project as after reviewing the content it became clear that we were missing a key target audience group of the think tank, the public. With this in mind we filmed and produced a set of video interviews filmed at the V&A so as of capture this audience group. This helped to provided content truly reflective of the sprit of a think tank that aimed to engage with designers, museum curators and museum visitors at a critical level.
