- Background
- The Expander exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art was the first project in a long standing colaboration with the artist Mustafa Hulusi. The exhibition at Burlington Gardens was curated by Mustafa and included contemporary works by Cory Arcangel, Christopher Landoni, Christopher Orr, Mark Titchner, Toby Ziegler. Since the exhibition in 2004, we have produced branding and design for a series of subsequent artworks, exhibitions, books and events (see also BALTIC Centre of Contemporary Art).
- Concept
- In its first incarnation the green 'Expander Sunburst' was designed as a positive and powerful identifier for the forthcoming show. It was a deliberate strategy to create an icon that would be uniquely distinctive, instantly recognisable and strong enough to make a clear differentiation between it and other billboard advertising.
The use of the sunburst has been expanded by Mustafa as a liberal and dynamic graphic motif central within his work. Our involvement continues in the design and production of its various incarnations to date, as paintings, print, billboards, animated billboards and installations visible all over the world.
