- Background
- We were asked by the Design Products department at the Royal College of Art to design their yearbook as an accompaniment to the end-of-year exhibitions held every year in Kensington.
- Concept
- Working closely with Hilary French, Head of the School of Architecture and Design, we created a strategy for compiling a broader range of editorial content than had historically been used. As well as showcasing all of the graduating students of 2008, the book also included work by Tom Dixon, interviews with the key lecturers and professors and features on the department's research agenda.
Our tactic for the design and art direction of the book was to condense all of this content into a concentrated pocket sized format. This served to to give the book a unique identity and also to make it easy to carry and take away from the opening night and launch party. With its tiny florescent orange covers and black foil embossed typography, the book was the most successful yearbook that the department has produced, with the entire run being snapped up in days.
